Congratulations to Dr. Jeremy Baldwin who was recently awarded a prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship and an Endeavour Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to travel to Germany. Dr. Baldwin was awarded the Churchill fellowship by his Excellency the Governor of Queensland, The Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, in an official ceremony at Government House on the 24th November. Dr. Baldwin also gave a presentation on the project at the Churchill Trust Annual Gala Dinner at Victoria Park. Dr. Baldwin’s Churchill Fellowship will focus on exploring next generation cell processing techniques to advance Australia’s Regenerative Medicine sector. In Germany Dr. Baldwin will be hosted at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) by Prof. Dirk Busch a pioneer in the field of immunology and its application in cell-based therapeutics. Dr. Baldwin will learn the latest techniques for cell isolation and purification and bring this knowledge back to Australia in order to improve ongoing cell-based projects ranging from cancer modelling to tissue engineering. Later in the year Dr. Baldwin will return to Germany as part of his Endeavour Fellowship to further collaboration between the Centre in Regenerative Medicine QUT and TUM and apply knowledge gained during his Churchill Fellowship towards the development of an advanced preclinical model for late stage breast cancer.
